A man died after shooting himself in a town centre, police said today.
Officers were called to a property in Southover High Street in Lewes, at about 7.20pm yesterday.
A Sussex Police spokesman said the man, who has not been identified, was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton where he was pronounced dead.
The incident has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) as unarmed officers attended the scene, the spokesman added.
He said: "We are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident."
Police said the investigation was in its early stages.
