A photographer who won a national competition with an image of a stranger has been selected to take Sir David Attenborough's picture.
Richard Boll, of Brighton, scooped the National Portrait Gallery's Photographic Portrait Prize last year for "Joe", part of a series of quick, informal shots of passers-by.
He had planned to stop people outside his seafront flat in Embassy Court, but his stroll took him further into the city where he persuaded Joe Mochan, 37, seen standing bare-chested, wearing beads, bracelets and sporting a tattoo and naval piercing, to pose for a picture.
His latest project celebrates Sir David's victory in Britain's Greatest Living Icon, a poll for BBC2's The Culture Show.
Mr Boll said: "It was a fantastic, huge offer, to be asked to photograph David Attenborough. I have oceans of respect for the guy."
Sir David got more than a third of the 200,000 votes, beating Morrissey and Sir Paul McCartney to the title.
Mr Boll said: "I wanted to portray Sir David in a serious way with no gimmicks. He is a serious man, serious about what he does, so I wanted to photograph him in a way that would do him justice."
The National Portrait Gallery is to stage an exhibition of pictures of Britain's Greatest Living Icons from a date to be confirmed.
