GENEROUS donors have so far given more than £50,000 to a fund set up ten days ago to help people affected by the Shoreham Airshow crash.

Donations to the official Shoreham Airshow Fund have been made from the UK and abroad.

Much of the money will go to families of the eleven men, from Sussex, killed in the disaster, while communities and other individuals affected will also benefit.

Daniel Humphreys, leader of Worthing Borough Council, said: “The way our community has pulled together to contribute to the fundraising effort has been incredible.”

The fund was set up by West Sussex County Council, Adur and Worthing councils and the charity Sussex Community Foundation.

Plans are being made for a memorial service to honour the victims of the crash.

It is hoped the ceremony will take place within the next few months but a date is still being finalised.

Hundreds of people gathered there for a minute’s silence at 1.20pm last Saturday, a week since the Hawker Hunter jet crashed onto the A27, killing 11 people and critically wounding the pilot.

But now West Sussex County Council, and other authorities, are arranging an official memorial service at Lancing College chapel.

Funeral services are being held today for two of the victims, Jacob Schilt and Maurice Abrahams.

The pilot of the crashed Hawker Hunter, Andrew Hill, remains seriously ill in hospital but is understood to be improving.

Authorities are unable to say yet when the A27, where the Hawker Hunter came down on Saturday August 22, will be fully re-opened.
