I am firmly committed to recycling and have been for some time, and fully support the Government's initiative to get households to recycle more.
However, what is the point in us struggling to recycle the stuff we have, which is surely a very small percentage of landfill, when businesses and hospitals are continuing to throw their rubbish out unsorted in millions of bin bags each week?
Just look and see how many papers, magazines, drink cans and bottles are thrown away from each ward each day in each hospital - let alone the outpatients' departments and offices.
Look at what you are putting in your office bin each day. I have worked as an office cleaner and each day each office would throw away the daily paper, drink bottles, plastic cups and so on. And what about the supermarkets? What is becoming of the thousands of cardboard boxes in which the produce is delivered to the supermarkets? It would be interesting to have a nosy around out the back and see.
