The family of a 23-year-old killed in the disaster have paid tribute to a “generous, kind, loyal and exceptional young man”.
Jacob Schilt was killed alongside his Worthing United FC team mate Matthew Grimstone, 23, as they drove to play at a match.
Yesterday Mr Schilt’s family said: “He loved his family and friends and he loved living life to the full.
“Football was his obsession from the age of five and it is such a tragedy that his life was taken on his way to do what he most loved doing.”
Yesterday Varndean College also paid tribute to Mr Schilt and Mr Grimstone, both of whom joined the college in September 2008.
Principal Phil Harland said: “Both were hard working, co-operative and polite. They were both willing to help others and their teachers commented that they were a delight in the classroom.
“Matthew was the college’s goalkeeper and Jacob was the team captain. Matthew and Jacob were very talented on the football field, displaying a great deal of skill but also an ability to work hard for the team.”
Their secondary school, Varndean School, also remembered them both as “kind young men”.
