Congratulations to Steve Percy and his People's Parking Protest campaign. His work has helped identify an extra 20 parking spaces in and around the West Hill area (The Argus, April 23).
When I spoke at a campaign meeting in February, there was some scepticism from Green councillors after I pledged I would help ensure the Labour-led council and its officers would investigate any legitimate concerns about unnecessary double-yellow lines. Barely two months later, this approach has begun to bear fruit - and without compromising on road safety.
As I said at the time, the parking re-organisation in the city is intended to help wards such as St Peter's and North Laine and to provide residents with a reasonable expectation they will find a parking space within a reasonable distances of their homes.
These 20 new spaces must be only the beginning. I am sure many more can and will be found across St Peter's and North Laine as the result of ongoing scrutiny.
- Greg Hadfield, Labour candidate for St Peter's and North Laine
