Volunteers are urgently needed to help save lives at sea.
The Birling Gap Safety Boat Association is a group of people who patrol the area around Cuckmere Haven and Beachy Head, where tides fluctuate, currents are strong and swimmers often find themselves drifting far from shore.
It works closely with the RNLI at weekends and bank holidays to warn people of dangers and make sure everyone is safe. It was set up 30 years ago after founder Graham Collins, owner of the Birling Gap Hotel, saved a drowning man and realised how dangerous the waters around his home were.
