He doesn't have dreadlocks, couldn't grow a goatee beard if he tried and balks at the mere mention of mungo beans yet schoolboy Adam Davis proved he was every inch the busker during an impromptu performance in Brighton.
The 11-year-old was walking along the promenade with his father when he spotted two ragtime musicians tinkling the ivories to a dwindling crowd.
So, with only a few coppers in the pot, the Blatchington Mill School pupil could not resist the opportunity to grab the limelight and try out a few tunes of his own.
Adam, of Pembroke Gardens, Hove, was delighted when the buskers stepped aside to allow him centre stage and within minutes a sizeable crowd had gathered.
To the amazement of those watching the pint-sized performer began belting out impressive renditions of James Blunt's Goodbye My Love and Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody.
One of the buskers was so impressed by the talented youngster that he gave him the ultimate accolade - his old hat.
After 20 minutes Adam upped and left to continue his walk to the Palace Pier. On his return however he was grabbed by the two to do another set, this time to classics including Elton John's Your Song.
Adam said: "I'm not usually nervous in front of an audience but it was tough at the beginning when there was nobody watching. People did seem interested though.
"It was really great fun and now I want to go out to busk for myself because I get a live audience and get to play as many songs as I like."
Proud father Martin Davis said: "He was really really great and he made a lot more money than the two buskers.
"We don't know how much he made because we couldn't count it but my guess is that he made about £80 for them, looking at the empty guitar case before and after.
"He is now going to be going out on his own and he's had me running around trying to get a decent amplifier for him.
"We've had offers coming in from managers in London and we've had loads of business cards given to us, so he's made quite a few contacts."
Adam started his singing career at All Saints Church choir in Hove and also sings with the Brighton Goes Gospel Children's Choir. As well as being a talented singer and pianist, he plays the saxophone and the drums.
He admits to having a passion for playing live and can't wait for his next big public performance at Concorde 2 in Brighton on May 5, where he will be playing as part of Teenspirit - a showcase for talented musical youngsters organised by Blatchington Mill School Community Arts.
He will also be playing in the front garden of 38 Pembroke Crescent, Hove, during the city's series of Open House weekends throughout May.
