Further to the discussion about toilets on trains, I'm more concerned about the rip-off of paying to use them in stations.
I sent the following query (twice) to Southern and have not received a reply: Why does it cost 20p to use the toilet at both Brighton Station and London Victoria, when similar facilities are free to use at East Croydon and Haywards Heath?
All facilities have recently been refurbished, so this cannot be the reason. Even London Bridge station has free (not refurbished) toilets on the platforms.
It also cannot be because the paying toilets are in public areas - as then they would allow ticket holders free access on request. They do not.
Furthermore, Victoria and Brighton stations are virtually always staffed. Haywards Heath isn't, so if anywhere needed a barrier to deter vandals it would be there.
The occasional lack of toilets on the trains could be forgiven if you could go before or after your journey.
