Plans to build Europe's greenest housing estate out of 15,000 tyres will come before councillors next week.
Brighton and Hove City Council will decide on Wednesday whether to grant planning permission for the 16 Earthships on a site next to Brighton Marina.
Eco-company Biotecture want to create two and three bedroom homes on the seafront location in Roedean.
The buildings are designed to be free of utility bills and ultra low on carbon emissions by heating and cooling themselves, providing their own wind and solar power and harvesting rainwater.
Recycled tyres will form a large part of the structure and six of the homes will be available through a housing association as affordable units.
The proposal will also help to improve the habitat for the lizards which already live on site.
A successful development in Brighton could pave the way for dozens of Earthship projects around the UK.
