A failed asylum seeker fighting removal from the UK is today applying to be released from his detention centre.
Mohammed Samad, 23, from Blackthorns in Hurstpierpoint, was delayed without warning on Tuesday April 10.
He has since been moved from Colnbrook Immigration Removal Centre, near Heathrow, to a centre in Oakington in Cambridge.
Mr Samad has been described as a "model citizen". Since fleeing Tamil Tiger rebels in Sri Lanka in 1999 he has married his wife, Sarah, and had a two-year-old son, Oscar.
His supporters have started an online petition against his deportation.
The Home Office refused to comment on the case but maintained it would deal "robustly" with failed asylum cases.
He is applying to be bailed while the Home Office considers his case.
