I sometimes wonder what the public want from the police.
You recently ran an article headlined "Officers caught out by cameras" (The Argus, April 11).
This story called for disciplinary measures to be taken against officers who are caught speeding or passing through red traffic lights.
I cannot condone dangerous or even careless driving but what do the public want?
The following day, a letter from Jo Clay was headed "Police action a joke". In this letter, she complained that the police took ten minutes to get to the scene of a crime. Perhaps they were only abiding by the law as requested the day before? You cannot have it both ways.
I know the officer her letter referred to and, to be fair, the events did not happen exactly as Ms Clay claimed. But there again, the police are never allowed to have their say.
