Call me a stickler for spelling, grammar and syntax, but surely Brian Ralfe, Independant (sic) candidate for Brunswick and Adelaide, cannot be so resolutely independent he is unable to garner a chum or two to proofread his campaign material?
In the two leaflets I have received this week about Mr Ralfe, there are at least 15 errors of spelling and several examples of phrases and clauses aspiring to be sentences but failing through lack of subject, object or even verb.
The result is that much of what he is attempting to say is lost in the grammatical chaos.
It is disappointing in the leaflet in which Lord Kitchener "wants YOU" to vote for Brian Ralfe he is "Independant" and not "Independent" throughout.
If you are standing for public office, the very least you can do is ensure your publicity bears scrutiny and avoids the unfortunate and perversely humorous transposition of one's own name from Brian to Brain.
