Explaining how the show came to be called Pride and Prejudice and Niggas Reginald D Hunter seemed to try to pre-empt any criticism of his act by discussing some of the press he has already received.
From the rapturous applause which greeted him as he came on stage, it seemed as though he was already preaching to the converted.
He is a gifted raconteur - confident and articulate - touching on themes which are at times thoughtprovoking.
The concept of "honesty", the way we over-protect children, the "deals" you make with the world by not protesting against things you dislike, and the secrets your parents never told you were all discussed.
According to Hunter, there are two types of people in the world - those with the curiosity to look at their own rectum, and those without.
I would say he is definitely the former.
