Conservative councillors Brian Oxley and Ted Kemble have "serious reservations" about the tuk-tuk service (Letters, April 14).
So much so they have written to the Traffic Commissioner regarding the issue of licences.
Let's get something straight here. Ted Kemble was a taxi driver for 15 years. Taxi drivers don't like tuk-tuks because they are competition.
Councillors Oxley and Kemble are looking for an issue. They've found an easy one which fits with their "spoilsport" political tactics and vested interest in taxi drivers.
If people want the opportunity to ride a tuk-tuk, they should have it. Councillors Kemble and Oxley should be more open about their political motivations.
People are becoming disillusioned with local politics because so much of it is based on self-interest and opportunism.
What local councillors such as Oxley and Kemble don't realise is that people know what they're up to.
Tuk-tuks are fun. Taxi drivers will just have to get used to them.
