Nursery staff harnessed the spirit of Willy Wonka to help raise money for seriously ill children.
Ten members of staff from Busy Bees nursery in Hove did a sponsored walk dressed as the fictional chocolate factory tycoon, his Oompa Loompa helpers and other Roald Dahl characters.
They were raising money for Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity, which helps to make life better for seriously ill children by giving grants to families and providing expert support.
Staff were joined by families who use the nursery on their walk from Brighton Marina to the West Pier. Tor Dunster, a manager at the nursery in Dyke Road Avenue, said the event raised about £400 with £250 from passersby during the walk. The charity is the national Busy Bees company’s charity of the year and the Hove nursery will continue to raise funds.
Ms Dunster said: “I grew up reading Roald Dahl stories and we have really decided to embrace it, we are putting in a lot of effort.”
She plans to do a sponsored 400-foot bungee jump in Austria later this year.
