Members of Blind Veterans UK were invited to Buckingham Palace yesterday to mark the charity’s 100th anniversary.
They were guests at the Queen’s garden party in the capital which was blessed with sunshine.
Among those who went up for day included charity chief executive Nick Caplin and Royal Navy veteran Sue Eyles, from Brighton.
The Countess of Wessex stopped off for a chat with Sue and her guide dog Zara during the afternoon event.
Another of the veterans who went was Raymond Hazan OBE, 70, from Seaford, who was blinded by an IRA parcel bomb.
He said: “To me, this charity signifies the beginning of my journey discovering life beyond sight loss. I owe Blind Veterans UK so much. I have made so many friends over the years and gone on to achieve things that I would never have believed possible when I first lost my sight."
The charity has one of its main centres in Ovingdean.
