I would like to thank Henry Smith of West Sussex County Council (WSCC) for taking time to respond to my remarks on CO2 emission (Letters, April 6).
I confirm I support actions that encourage cleaner, healthier conditions.
I would also mention that my letter referred to his spokesperson only insofar as she reiterated council policy.
My concern remains, however, that public authorities appear to have accepted the CO2 bandwagon to such an extent that it now has a gathering momentum of its own.
This will involve the expenditure of large sums of taxpayers' money on schemes that may or may not be beneficial to the public, will almost certainly not affect overall global warming and will cause inconvenience or worse to large numbers of people.
All this on the basis of "scientific" statements without real back-up data, let alone proof.
I wonder, also, why other more toxic pollutants are not being pursued similarly with such vigour and whether these public bodies are concerned to see if the real causes of global warming are being monitored correctly to give a truer indication of possible catastrophic effects.
As WSCC has active concerns regarding this subject, I hope it will consider the overall position and ask its scientific advisers for proof on the CO2 theory.
