Roads plunged into darkness for weeks at a time because of street light failures could become a thing of the past.
A number of streets in Brighton and Hove have faced long periods without light in the past six months, particularly in Woodingdean.
Areas along the seafront in Hove and near Hove Station have also been highlighted as problem spots.
Conservative councillors have pushed for EDF, which is charged with much of the repair work, to be held accountable for the delays.
Now, Brighton and Hove City Council chief executive Alan McCarthy has written to the multinational firm asking for a street-light surgery to be set up to improve cooperation between the local authority and the energy giant.
The move follows a decision by councillors last month to press for the council to meet its target of repairing faults within five working days.
