In response to M Dyson (Letters, April 9) and everyone else who keeps complaining about the West Pier and the Gehry towers, I personally feel the current state of the West Pier is beautiful.
I ask you, how many people do you see on a summer evening taking pictures of the pier as it stands? I believe it is the best piece of public art in a town that is full of it.
As for the Gehry towers, OK I understand the objection about people's views being ruined but as it stands they are going to pull down one of the most run-down eyesores in the area (has anyone been swimming recently? The King Alfred is dirty and in need of massive repair) and produce something that may not be inkeeping, but I'm sure will quite amazing.
I am not up to speed on all Gehry's projects but anyone who has stood in front of the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao would never even imagine rejecting the opportunity to have one of his buildings in our home town.
