Steve Windsor is right to complain about the charity collector - or "chugger" - outside Primark in Western Road, Brighton (The Argus, Letters, April 5).
But he is wrong to suggest what he saw could only happen in Brighton and Hove.
Bournemouth and Westminster are among the other areas which have problems with the sometimes aggressive behaviour of these people.
The Argus has reported my lobbying about this in Parliament on behalf of our council, traders and residents.
The Charities Act 2006 will eventually bring in regulation of these face-to-face collectors, which should help.
Meanwhile, as a result of the Act, the Fundraising Standards Board began operating in February. It is early days for this organisation which seeks to set high standards among the 350 major charities which have signed up to it.
But I recommend that people unhappy about an experience with "chuggers" contact the FSB on 0845 4025442 or complain online at www.fsboard.org.uk
