THIS is the moment a retiree was told he had won a £45,000 Porsche.

Graham Williams won the sports car after playing a spot the ball competition online.

Will Hindmarch, founder of the Best of the Best competition, visited the 62-year-old’s Lindfield home with Argus photographer Terry Applin to deliver the good news in person.

Speaking shortly after, Mr Williams said: “I’m pretty ecstatic as you can imagine. I’m very chuffed.

“I’m sorry if I sound smug, but I haven’t stopped smiling since.”

The competition organisers contacted Mr Williams’ wife to organise a time when they could visit and surprise him with the car and a bottle of bubbly.

He added: “I had no idea what was happening.

“My wife told me I needed to be in the house at a certain time and when you’re told something like that, you can’t help but wonder what is going on.”

The retired chartered accountant played the spot the ball competition on website botb.com and then thought nothing more of it.

He said: “I’ve entered a few times over the years – maybe 20, perhaps more, you lose count after a while, but I never thought I would win.

“This is a car I have wanted for years, so it really made my day.”

After being presented with the car, Mr Williams was taken to the nearest Porsche dealership to pick out the exact colours and specifications he wanted.

After careful consideration he opted for the £45,000 Porsche Macan S which features a three litre V6 twin-turbo engine.

Described as a “luxury compact crossover utility vehicle” it can manage 0 to 60mph in just over five seconds. And with 340 horsepower it can reach a top speed of 157mph.

His personalised Porsche will be delivered to him in the next few weeks.

He added: “I can’t wait to get behind the wheel.

“I will certainly be grinning, especially since I didn’t have to write a big cheque for it.”
