Regarding your article about commuters and the problems relating to Gatwick (The Argus, April 4), I have often thought a good alternative to the congested London to Brighton line, and especially the Haywards Heath to Brighton section, would be to utilise the Arun Valley line.
Commuter services to London from the Worthing area could use this route if a junction was put in just west of Lyminster to enable trains to travel directly to London, instead of reversing at Littlehampton.
The Arun Valley line could sustain extra services and would take some of the pressure off the main Brighton line. Journey times may be a few minutes longer but if it meant more trains, commuters would have more chance of getting a seat.
