A 17-year-old has appeared in court over a brutal assault that left a man fighting for his life.
The teenager, from Hollingdean, was arrested on Friday after a man in his early 30s was seriously assaulted outside a row of shops in Crestway Parade, Hollingdean, Brighton, just after 4pm on Good Friday.
The man was transferred from the Royal Sussex County Hospital to the Hurstwood Park neurological centre at the Princess Royal Hospital in Haywards Heath, where he remains critically ill with serious head injuries.
The youth, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was charged with causing grievous bodily harm and yesterday appeared at Brighton Magistrates' Court.
He was released on bail and will next appear at Lewes Crown Court on a date to be fixed.
Sussex Police are still appealing for any witnesses to the attack to contact Brighton CID on 0845 06070999 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
