I have to disagree with Peter J McKenna (Letters, April 4), who claims Brightonians want the Gehry Towers to be built.
I was born in Brighton and I have lived here my whole life.
I have written many letters in the past about this type of architecture, which is blighting the whole of Britain. It is not in any way aesthetically pleasing to look at.
In fact, it is very depressing.
Gehry and others like him should study some of the wonderful buildings of our late, great British architects such as Lancelot Brown, John Nash and Lord Burlington.
Then they should know that a thing of beauty is a joy forever.
Trying to house all the extra population moving into this area is obviously impossible without pulling down our heritage buildings and replacing them with a multitude of high-rise, uninteresting, concrete buildings such as the Top Rank next to the Grand Hotel in Brighton or the Tesco adjacent to St Andrew's Church in Hove. I can think of many more examples.
Future tourists will not be interested in visiting towns and cities which have had their character destroyed by these ghastly designs.
