Oh no, not that old chestnut again. How many more times will The Argus have a headline saying there are new negotiations to develop the West Pier? (The Argus, April 3)
We all wanted to see the old pier rebuilt but 32 years after the structure was left to perish, with endless broken promises from the current owners, the saga has evolved into a catalogue of false hopes.
If the West Pier Trust has been successful in its work, then why on earth is the pier still looking in such a sorry state? How much more time does the trust need before it finally throws in the towel?
It's great news that the i360 is ready for construction after such a brief inception.
While the West Pier leaves us with many happy memories, it is time to draw a veil over the "old lady" and not to try to continually persuade us that her resurrection is imminent.
West Pier RIP.
