Apparently Brighton and Hove City Council has welcomed the i360 project with open arms because, as a condition of the planning permission, the developers will remove the West Pier debris.
However, we may be landing ourselves with an even bigger problem in the future if the project turns out to be something of a white elephant.
All local people know how frequently sea mists and low cloud reduce visibility to just a few metres - at any time of year.
What will the i360 company do on such days? Show films of views from the top in clear weather?
The question is - if the venture is a commercial failure, who will pay for the maintenance and/or dismantling of the structure when it becomes dangerous?
Well, obviously, the people of Brighton and Hove, after a lot of haranguing with the owners.
