On March 29, at around 3pm, I was in Marine Drive, Rottingdean, when I noticed a man behaving in a bewildered manner on the busy four-lane main road.
Horns were honking and, instead of moving, he collapsed. I also spotted an elderly lady with a stick leaning over him.
I immediately rushed into the road, my only thought being "get this man out of danger". Crowds were gathering on all four sides of the crossroads as I, and the elderly lady, tried to move him. I am registered disabled myself and now have little strength.
A group of maybe half a dozen young teenage girls also rushed to help. Between us we got the man, who had suffered a fit and was not drunk, as people speculated, on to the island in the middle of the road.
With that, two strong men also helped us. We needed it.
The point of this letter is that there is so much criticism of our younger folk - vandalism, abuse, drunkenness, attacks and so forth, often due to neglect and boredom, and it is not just confined to the young either.
But you rarely hear about the good, caring, well brought up youngsters. Yes, they do exist. And yes, they'll let their hair down given a chance I'm sure. That makes them the same as all of us, human.
So, thank you very much for your help girls (while elders stopped and gawped). That man was safe because of you. Also thanks to the two strong men.
