I'm not sure on what basis Pete Sayers, secretary of the Motorists Equity and Unity Party, predicts "nose to tail traffic along the seafront" when the bus lanes are introduced on the A259 (Letters, April 5).
There's no need to wait. The morning queue for the Rottingdean traffic lights already stretches back well into Peacehaven and gets longer by the month.
The new bus lanes will give a realistic and efficient alternative for thousands of commuters. He also claims there were never traffic queues into Brighton as far back as Patcham before the London Road bus lane.
I disagree and indeed this bus lane has not taken away any road space from motorists and nor will the one planned for the A259.
The problem with his plan to allow complete freedom for car users to park outside their shop of choice is that one motorist's free parking space to pop into a shop is another's place to dump a car for weeks on end.
Hence parking management is needed and why every council throughout Sussex and elsewhere is now introducing such policies as well as promoting public transport.
