Nine out of 10 parish councils think 30mph speed limits should be the norm in villages, according to a survey by East Sussex County Council.
Some 56% think the majority of drivers ignore limits, while 89% said that speeding is the greatest traffic headache faced in their communities.
The council has set aside £750,000 to look at speed limits in villages.
