A woman dialled 999 while trapped upside down in her car on an isolated country road.
The frightened woman was unable to direct rescuers to her car, which spun off the road into bushes yesterday at 4pm.
Police used her mobile phone signal to track her down to the area around Glasshouse Lane at Kirdford, near Billinghurst.
A police helicopter crew, police officers, paramedics and firefighters were all sent to the scene, but could see no sign of the woman, who was in her 20s.
They scoured the countryside for up to an hour before the police helicopter located her on the road between Kirdford and Balls Cross.
Fire crews from Horsham, Petworth and Billinghurst had to cut the woman free from the car as her legs were pinned between the dashboard and steering wheel. She was finally freed at 6pm, more than two hours after her 999 call.
Station commander at Horsham, Steve Clark said: "Although she was obviously very shaken up after being trapped for so long, she seemed fine once we had released her.
"She was taken to hospital to be checked over but I think she's going to be fine."
