Your story about a fly-tipper being jailed for four months (The Argus, March 21) reflects the seriousness with which magistrates view this offence.
Illegally dumped rubbish is dangerous, potentially harmful to residents, spoils our environment and is costly to remove.
I think this is also an ideal opportunity to remind your readers that it is their responsibility to make sure their rubbish is disposed of properly.
They must ensure that any firm or individual contracting to dispose of rubbish of any description on their behalf is licensed and does so in a legal and safe way.
If their waste is taken away and then fly-tipped, it could leave them liable for prosecution and being fined up to £5,000.
