Schools in the area gave pupils the afternoon off to go and see the Queen yesterday.
Youngsters from Whitehawk Primary welcomed Her Majesty by holding up large flags.
Other children from St John's Primary and St Mark's Primary waved small Union flags and chanted 'We love the Queen'.
Isabella Keating, six, from St John's Primary, was one of the lucky youngsters picked out of the crowd and asked to join a line-up giving flowers to the Queen.
She said: "She said thank you and was really nice.
"I was really excited to meet her."
Her mother Daniella said: "It was fantastic she was picked. A real once in a lifetime opportunity."
Mary Frankel, 67, of Plaistowe Close, held up a banner saying "Welcome to Whitehawk", which had been produced by The Argus. She said she had recently moved to the area from Hove and was proud the monarch was visiting the area.
Mrs Frankel said: "I think she is very good to come here to see what Whitehawk can do.
"It shows it is not such a bad place as they all say. It is a proud day for the area."
Laura Gwyer, 23, of Maresfield Road, said: "I couldn't believe it when I first heard. It was a bit of a shock.
"The Queen in Whitehawk? I had to come to see it."
