This small blog is hommage to Charlie Hebdo staff and a possible lesson for B&H = the SoapBox Argus article by Roz Scott at the week-end was invigorating (see quote)
"The problem is that most of us in the West live without fear because we do not challenge, question and expose injustice, and face no personal cost. We are not Charlie, we compromise and cower. As citizens in Brighton, Hove and across the United Kingdom we must continue the vigil to protect free speech with courage. This will make Mr Charbonnier and those who remain at Charlie Hebdo proud.
The legacy must continue by courage not cowardice. "
The cartoon (see attached) is just one of many that remind us that , as the magazine's lawyer told France Info radio recently: "We will not give in. The spirit of 'I am Charlie' means the right to blaspheme."
And that cowardice is precisely what infected the recent Standards Board in the Golly-Wog case and in the case of ‘hired killers’ row: both shows clearly how Brighton & Hove City Council did not protect free speech.
As to the right for the paid assassins in Paris...... that kind of martyrdom gives martyrdom a bad name'
