MODERN day slavery is an ever growing issue, but not many people are aware of how much it happens.
In fact, it happens in every town and city in Britain, and there are approximately 27 million people in slavery across the world today. This is a truly horrifying fact.
The amount of human rights that are refused by slavery is astonishing. There is a right to freedom, no one should be held in slavery or servitude, no one should be subjected to torture.
Slavery, of course, is one of the worst forms of torture, because it does not just physically torture you through beatings and punishment, it tortures you mentally from the unbearable pain of being taken from everything you know and love.
These are to name but a few of the many rights refused. Sometimes they are all ignored. Slavery was abolished more than 200 years ago, so why is it still in use?
And how is it possible that there are more slaves in the world today than at any point in human history? Just imagine… being taken away and thrown into a cage for the rest of your life. You will probably never see your family again.
This is real and it is happening across the world at this very moment. Donate, fundraise, anything big or small can help. Amnesty International, not for sale, ECPAT UK, and UNA UK are just some of the charities fighting against slavery today. If we are serious about stopping slavery, we need to take action now.
