Marco Polo looks on as a rare bank note surfaces in eBay. Someone with a gripe about the inflation of the Italian currency in 1990 took to their typewriter and carefully overprinted a diatribe ....in english and italian, too!!
An unknown number of such notes must have been printed. The watermark is clear so it was not a forgery: indeed, the value of a 1000 lire at that time must have been the reason for buying up some crisp new notes and then overprinting the story ...
