A total of 12 men and three women competed in Henfield’s strongest man and woman competition to help raise funds for soft play equipment for children.
It will be used in a new extension which is soon to be built onto Henfield Leisure Centre in Northcroft.
Competitors met on Sunday, September 28 at 7.30am for the weigh in and the competition kicked off at 11am in a corner of the closed off leisure centre car park.
Fitness instructor and chief organiser, Sam Bremner, said: “This is something a bit different for Henfield, the money raised will help improve our facilities so much.
“On top of the new soft play area for the children, we also hope to open a coffee shop and build additional studios.”
A total of £1,374 was raised thanks to donations from sponsors, entrants’ fees and staff taking buckets round the crowds for spare change.
A small portion of the profits will go to Help for Heroes, a charity chosen by head judge, Lloyd Renals.
Simon Thompson, manager of Henfield Leisure Centre, said: “It has been a fantastic day.
“Thank you to everyone for their hard work, support and for their help in fundraising towards our soft play project.”
Hannah Boyton, Brett Miles and Tom Horward won their respective categories and were each presented with a trophy.
Registration will be open shortly for next year's competition which will take place in September 2015.
