Eager volunteers are being sought by The Bevendean Community pub in Hillside, Moulsecoomb to help with its ongoing renovation project.
Members are appealing for people with or without a specific trade to contribute their time to tasks ranging from carpentry and painting to cleaning and gardening.
The Bevy will be the first pub of its kind on a housing estate in both Brighton and the UK, and has been reliant on volunteers for its overhaul due to a lack of funds for contractors.
Work days take place every Saturday from 11am-4pm with a team member present between these hours to direct people on their contributions.
Donations of furniture and kitchen appliances are also being sourced so that spending is kept to a minimum.
The pub’s secretary Helen Jones has stressed the need for extra input and support for the busy weeks ahead so that the facilities can be used as soon as possible.
Ms Jones said: “Whether you are a mum with a toddler, a working man, a family, a student, an old age pensioner, a working person, anybody, you will have somewhere to come.”
The Bevy is described in its prospectus as “more than just a pub”, and will have both a bar and a café in addition to a training kitchen for up to eight chefs.
A community meeting room will double as a classroom that will eventually house a money advice service, counselling and creative workshops.
The organisation operates as a co-operative, meaning every shareholder’s opinion is treated equally regardless of how many shares each person owns.
Shares are priced at £10 each and investors of £100 or more can redeem 50% of their sum if they qualify under the terms of the Seed Enterprise Investment Scheme.
Wish-lists and more information can be found on the official website, www.thebevy.co.uk, www.facebook.com/thebevy or with the twitter handle @thebevy.
