An entrepreneur has completed 12 marathons in 12 months to raise money for a school which supports children with learning difficulties.
Kevin Byrne, boss of Selsey-based trade vetting service Checkatrade.com, raised £130,000 worth of funds, labour and materials for Redwood Park School.
The school desperately needs new changing rooms with students having to get ready in a small, cramped building, with no toilets, heating or showers.
Kevin said: “I visited Redwood Park School with some of my staff and was shocked by what we found.
“The school has managed to scrape together nearly £50,000 in savings and Government grants but refitting the changing rooms will cost more than double that.
“I decided to act.”
Kevin began the marathons mission outside Sainsbury’s stores last year and completed his final run last month in Chichester opposite a crowd of supporters.
Work will begin on Redwood Park School’s changing rooms this summer, with Checkatrade.com trade members pitching in free of charge to keep the costs as low as possible.
