FORTY travellers’ caravans moved onto land after three concrete bollards were removed.
The travellers moved onto the waste land at Sheepcote Valley in Brighton and Sussex Police and Brighton and Hove City Council visited the site yesterday.
A police spokesman said: “A group of around 40 travellers' caravans, previously camped on private land at Manor Hill, near Brighton Racecourse, has moved onto waste land at Sheepcote Valley, Brighton.
“It is understood that Brighton and Hove City Council is dealing with this latest development.”
A spokesman for Brighton and City Council said: “We have visited this site with the police. We are now seeking possession of this land. We will be applying to the county court for a possession order which will enable us to arrange for an eviction to be carried out as soon as practicable, should the families fail to leave the site voluntarily.”
