TRAVELLERS were told to leave a city park last night.
A group arrived at the council-owned Withdean Park in Brighton on Friday and there were 39 vehicles at the site yesterday morning.
A Brighton and Hove City Council spokesman said officials had visited the site with police.
Yesterday the council applied to the County Court for a possession order to enable an eviction to be carried out. Chief Superintendent Nev Kemp, of Sussex Police, tweeted: “I have authorised use of Police powers to require travellers...in #Withdean Park to leave by 10am tomorrow”.
Basil Holding, 71 of Peacock Lane, said: “Children have been riding on quad bikes, unsupervised and with no safety gear.”
Phillipa Shaw, chairwoman of Friends of Withdean Park, said the travellers had gained entry to the park via a path leading from Woodland Way.
