BUDDING rock stars took to the stage as they put on a showcase of their musical talent.
Students from the Brighton Institute of Modern Music (BIMM) got their rocks off as they put on a gig for their families and friends to mark the end of the academic year and as part of their final course assessment.
Youngsters aged 16 to 18 grabbed their guitars and drumsticks as they put on a show completely arranged by the students – with pupils even in charge of the lighting and staging.
The students are taking the First Diploma in Modern Music course – which is the equivalent of four GCSEs.
Young stars included metal rockers 0121 Do One! and singer-guitarist pairing The E and Them.
Michael Bowes, head of the Music Business Entrepreneurs at BIMM, said: “It went very well, it was the level two students and was part of their assessment to put on performance and showcase what they can do.
“They all contributed to running the gig and they all had different roles to play.
“Some were working the lights, some were introducing the acts and some were stage managers. They had to work together to pull the show off.
“The performers put themselves into bands and had to worth out three songs they wanted to play – it could be a mix of covers and original tracks.”
The First Diploma is a level two qualification and offers courses in guitar, bass, drums and vocals.
Vaseema Hamilton, BIMM principal, said: “It’s fantastic to see our youngest talent at BIMM take to the stage in their end of year showcase.
“Many of these students will continue their education here at BIMM Brighton, and those that enter into the world of work will have the key skills they need to flourish and a great support network behind.”
