THE county’s train stations were transported back in time to mark the 150th anniversary of a railway line.
The birthday of the Seaford Line was celebrated in time-travelling style as people wore period dress for the arrival of Victorian transport.
Steam engine Oliver Cromwell travelled through the county to Brighton on both Saturday and Sunday to give onlookers a glimpse of the power, noise and romance of rail travel from days gone by.
A second day had to be hastily arranged by The Railways Touring Company due to the high level of demand.
The main hub of activity centred on Seaford station which hosted musical and drama performances, stalls and the unveiling of a memorial plaque.
As well as Seaford, the special day was also marked with events in Lewes, Newhaven, Southease, London Road Railway Station in Brighton and Falmer.
Seaford Town Councillor Sam Adeniji said: “It was a very good weekend and very well supported which shows what a vibrant town and what a vibrant community Seaford has.
“The line was opened primarily to connect Seaford to London which helped us to become a seaside resort so the line was vital.”
