A COUNCIL is warning of the risks of doorstep scams.
West Sussex County Council (WSCC) is marking the end of Scam Awareness month by warning residents of the risks of cold-callers.
Doorstep fraud comprises 13% of all scams nationally and often targets vulnerable members of the public.
Lionel Barnard, WSCC’s cabinet member for residents services, said: “The cold-callers put homeowners under huge strain and can offer a wide range of promises that are extremely appealing – predominantly at cheap and affordable prices.
“As a consumer, you are given a lot of information at great speed before being put under uncomfortable pressure to make an immediate decision.
“On the other hand, honest businesses would be happy to provide you with a quote and allow you time to think about it.”
Anyone facing problems with doorstep callers is urged to call Citizens Advice Consumer Service on 08454 04 05 06.
