A man was stabbed in the stomach and then punched and kicked.
The victim was by his van in Old Church Road, St Leonards, on Friday 2 May at 9pm when a man came up behind him and stabbed him in the stomach causing a puncture wound and continued to punch and kick him.
The victim received hospital treatment for his wounds.
There are believed to be two suspects who are both described as white men, one described as lanky and over 6' in height.
PC Andy Lawrence said: "This is a vicious and unprovoked attack. Fortunately the victim wasn't seriously injured.
"We are keen to trace these men and seek any information about a matte black Audi A3 with blacked out windows that could be linked to the incident. If anyone has any information please get in contact."
