I have just read an account of Prince Charles’s latest rant on of all things capitalism.
This is somewhat rich (pun intended) coming from someone who on being granted his current title acceded to The Duchy of Cornwall which accounts for 209 sq miles of our green and pleasant land and covers 23 counties.
The Duchy of Cornwall dates back to to Henry IV in the 13th century and it is from this that Prince Charles generates his prime income – amounting to £19m in 2013.
In order to maintain him and his wife in the manner that they are accustomed he also receives £1.6M from the civil list, £1M in travel costs, £354K from government departments. and £78K for his press and communication office. This is of course at tax payers’ expense. Added to which he is supported by 121 full time equivalent staff and has four residences.
Is it me but does Prince Charles live in the real world?
He should follow his mother’s example who is the epitome of discretion and never courts controversy in her utterances.
But should we expect too much from our monarch in waiting who openly confesses to talking to flowers?
