DIGNITARIES have opened a new ramp to improve access to a village railway station.
To build the structure Southern Rail used brickwork rather than the normal concrete materials, ornate lantern style lamps with energy saving LED bulbs and CCTV columns painted black to blend in with the Glynde estate.
The path, on the site of an old milk delivery run, is the latest in a series of accessibility improvements made at Southern stations thanks to £325,500 of government funding. The opening was attended by Glynde Parish Councillor Jane Stevens, Lewes MP Norman Baker, Viscount Hampden of Glynde, local residents, councillors and representatives from Network Rail and Southern management.
Councillor Stevens said: “Working with Southern on this project has been a real pleasure – their refreshingly inclusive approach has enabled the community to be involved in the process from the start. It has been a great collaborative journey and we are also very appreciative of the wonderful folk who built it.”
