One of the greatest days in our history passed without any celebration.
How disgusting. I am talking about VE Day, which was on May 8.
Even the countries liberated from Nazi occupation celebrate.
Whatever is happening to us as a nation?
We could have been under Nazi rule if it was not for our troops, many of whom lost their lives.
Not that I expect our council to have organised anything.
Even Russia celebrates (and even honours) the veterans of the Arctic convoys.
One would think it could be a public holiday.
Having watched the victory parade in London as a child at the time, I recall it was fantastic to have peace and quiet, and no longer be under the threat of air raids.
In those days, Britain was a big family and everyone mucked in to help each other. But those days are gone.
VJ Day is approaching soon on August 15. If nothing else, I hope schools make sure they teach youngsters about this day.
