FUNDRAISERS completed a non-stop 100km trek from London to Brighton.
Either walking or jogging, 2,229 “challengers” took part in the London to Brighton Challenge in aid of more than 320 charities raising an estimated £2 million.
They set out from Richmond, London, on Saturday morning with most reaching the finishing line at Brighton Racecourse on Sunday.
One participant completed the route in nine hours and 12 minutes, beating last year’s record of 10 hours and 19 minutes.
The event was organised by Action Challenge, a company which co-ordinates mass participation walks and cycle rides throughout the UK and overseas on behalf of charities. To date they have helped raise more than £50 million.
A spokeswoman for Action Challenge said: “A huge congratulations to all of our challengers who took on the London 2 Brighton Challenge this weekend, making it the biggest year ever.
“The weather resulted in some very tough and muddy conditions, but every single person who set off from the start line is an inspiration.”
Registration is now open for the 2015 100km challenge for £49.
Challengers must pledge to raise £475, but only half of that has to be raised before the date of the challenge.
