At £22,500, this could be Sussex’s most expensive beach hut.

The little pea green beach hut overlooking the beach at Ferring, near Worthing, was put up for sale by estate agent Symonds Reading and has already had a bid close to the asking price.

The 3.05m by 2.14m building on The Strand near the Bluebird Cafe has no running water or electricity, but an offer has already been put in.

Overlooking the shingle beach with views across the English Channel, the hut is in an idyllic location.

In comparison, for £20,000 you could buy a one-bedroom flat in Sheffield complete with separate kitchen, bathroom and lounge.

Roger Curtis, manager of the Ferring branch of Symonds Reading, said demand for beach huts is growing and prices are going up.

He said: “There is a high demand for them and it is in such a great location – especially with the Bluebird Cafe so close.

“We have sold huts for around £20,000 before so we decided to put it up for the £22,500 asking price.

Place by the sea “It is not plumbed in and doesn’t have electricity, is just little more than a garden shed on the beach but people love them and at the moment have the money for them.

“They sometimes even use them on Christmas Day and go out there and have barbecues.

“People are happy to pay for the beach huts and even the council ones in Worthing go for high sums – they just want to have their own little place by the sea.”

Mr Curtis confirmed the estate agent has received an offer for the hut comparable to the asking price.

In August last year a beach hut in a prime location in Hove was sold for £14,250.

Worthing District Council also operates beach huts along their stretch of seaside with 109 council properties and 34 chalets available for hire.

Beach huts originated as an evolution of the traditional Victorian bathing machines and are now often fully furnished by their owners.
